Professional Membership
Professional membership is for qualified guidance counsellors working in Queensland. This membership provides comprehensive access to all QGCA resources and events, ensuring that you have the support you need to excel in your role. Professional members have voting rights at QGCA AGM elections.
Access to APACS membership as QGCA is an affiliate and access to APACS journal online.
Pathway to professional membership:
Applicants must first become Associate Members. They can progress to Professional Membership anytime by uploading the necessary documents to their profile and completing the “Professional Membership Application” form.
The QGCA Executive Committee will assess the documents, and the applicant will be informed of the outcome by the Membership Secretary.
Once approve professional members are required to participate in 15 hours of Continuing Professional Development per year to maintain their level of membership.
*There is no additional fee to upgrade to Professional Membership.
Professional membership criteria:
- Current teacher registration QCOT.
- Post-graduate training in educational guidance and counselling, recognised by the Executive and/or full registration with AHPRA as a psychologist.
- At least 12 months of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in guidance and counselling, OR
- Other relevant training or experience recognised by the Executive.
Associate Membership
Associate membership is ideal for individuals who support the work of guidance counsellors but may not meet the criteria for professional membership. This membership offers valuable resources and opportunities for professional development at a discounted rate.

- Networking opportunities within the QGCA community.
- Access to APACS membership as an affiliate organisation and access to the APACS journal.
Student Membership
The student membership is for individuals currently enrolled in a guidance and counselling degree. This membership provides access to essential resources and opportunities to connect with experienced professionals.

- Networking with experienced guidance and counselling professionals.
- Access to APACS membership as an affiliate organisation and access to the APACS journal.
